Is endoscopy a surgical procedure?

Endoscopy is a medical procedure and not a surgical procedure. The endoscope is inserted through the mouth or the colon. No incisions are made during the procedure.

Does an endoscopy hurt?

Endoscopy is a fairly quick procedure and is undertaken after your pet is given short-acting anesthesia. Your pet will not feel any pain during or after the procedure.

What does an endoscopy reveal?

Endoscopy allows veterinarians to see the esophagus, stomach and the upper part of the small intestine or the colon. They can see the inside clearly and identify scars, inflammation, abnormal swelling or narrowing and other similar abnormalities. They can also see foreign objects and retrieve them. Based on these abnormalities, they can diagnose and treat your pet accordingly.
