What is arthritis?

Arthritis is a degenerative disease that affects the joints. It is a slow, progressive disease that causes inflammation in joints and affects movement and strength in cats and dogs.

Is arthritis curable?

Unfortunately, there is no cure for arthritis. However, there are several treatments and therapies for dealing with arthritis. At Fraser Valley, we use various treatments to help slow the progression of arthritis and keep your pet free of the chronic pain associated with arthritis.

What signs indicate that my pet has arthritis?

Arthritis can go undetected as signs are often clearly visible when it is in the advanced stages. Some signs that can indicate your pet has arthritis are:

• If they are slow to stand up and move around or slow on stairs
• Sleeps longer and/or sleeps more
• Difficulty with slippery floors
• Limping
• Walking less than normal
• Difficulty/hesitancy jumping
• Excessive licking of joints
